Questions drivers ask

What's included in the £49.99?

Your taxi driver medical with a GMC-registered doctor, who completes your council's medical form at the van. A free retest is included if you need one. It's £49.99 when you book online.

Do I need my medical records?

Many councils ask for them, so check before you book. Wolverhampton Council needs your full GP medical records, which can take your GP up to 28 days to provide, so ask early. Bring whatever your council requires.

I'm applying in Birmingham. Can I book here?

Birmingham City Council runs its own taxi medical booking. Check with the council before you book with us so you don't pay twice.

Which form will the doctor complete?

Your council's own form if it issues one, so bring it with you. If your council doesn't have its own form, the doctor completes the standard taxi and private hire medical.

What should I bring?

Your photo driving licence, your council's medical form if it has one, your GP records if your council needs them, your glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, and a list of any medication.

Is this a private hire (PHV) medical too?

Yes. Taxi, hackney carriage and private hire drivers use the same council medical.

What if I don't pass?

The doctor records what they find. The licensing decision is your council's, not the doctor's or ours. If anything needs checking again, your retest is free.

Who does the medical?

A GMC-registered doctor. Our clinics are vans parked at transport sites and industrial estates, so there's no GP appointment to wait for.

Can I book by phone?
